Summer Reading Program
Summer Stride is an annual summer program administered by the San Francisco Public Library. It focuses on learning, reading and exploration for all ages and abilities. From June 1 through August 18, in excess of 1,000 free events are hosted that focus on the following areas of educational enhancement:
- Deepens reading enjoyment
- Spark STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning
- Connect with mindful experiences in nature
Participants are encouraged to acquire an activity tracker (PDF) to record a minimum of 20 hours of reading, listening and learning time, and work their way to a coveted finishing prize: the 2019 Summer Stride Library tote bag, featuring artwork by Zachariah OHora. For the second year, NCBW-SF mentees participated under the guidance and direction of NCBWSF members, read 20 hours or more and received their tote bag. The reading program is included in our 2020 programming.
Our Voices-Our Stories, SF
Our Voices, Our Stories SF began in 2014 with 16 amazing writers and four engaging book chats one of which featured Natalie Bazile, Queen Sugar Fame and Eunetta Boone who recently became the first black woman show runner on the Disney Channel. We’ve brought high-quality authors eager to share and discuss their work. The evening culminates in a book chat between Lisa D. Gray (the Founder and Curator of this landmark series), and one or more the authors.
