Commissioner Workshop

The Public Policy Committee of the NCBWSF hosts workshops and disseminate information on how to become a Commissioner or Board Member at the state and local government levels. A Panel of local Women Commissioners describes their Commissioner jobs and provides information on how they became Commissioners. For audience participation, a question and answer session takes place at the end by the panel’s presenters.

PUBLIC POLICY

Legislative Day

Presidents and members from the six California Chapters of the Coalition of 100 Black Women, visit the State Capital in March of each year to meet with legislators and to advocate for black women and girls in the areas of health, education, and economic empowerment.

The Coalition presents various concerns within a group setting to a wide range of assemblymen/women and senators who share the concerns of NCBW. The politicians that participate have written and presented bills that identify with the Coalition’s issues of concern to the House of Representatives and the State Senate.

As a result of our leadership and advocacy, Senator Holly Mitchell sponsored a Bill specifically for girls who are victims in the plight of “Trafficking of Black Girls”.

Voter Registration

During the months of September, October and November, The Coalition of 100 Black Women San Francisco Chapter holds voter registration training and voter registration in numerous churches. We will be hosting a Candidate’s and Initiatives Forum in 2020. The Forum is to provide a better understanding of the candidates’ platform and the impact the initiatives will have on the community. Participants will be extended the opportunity to present questions and speak with the individuals sponsoring or paying for the initiatives to be placed on the ballot. In 2018, we hosted this forum in partnership with the League of Women Voters. We register new citizens to vote after Swearing-In Ceremonies at the renowned Paramount in Oakland, California, from June through October of each year.
