Greetings,   

Thank you for stopping by the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. San Francisco Chapter website, where you will receive a glimpse of the work of chapter members and our community partners.  As you see the great work, know that there is “more than meets the eye”.  Our accomplishments would not be as great as they are without people like you taking the time to see what is going on and inquiring about what can be done to help.  Thank you! 

As I embark on my new journey as president of our local chapter, I would like to acknowledge the founding President Emeritus, I Lee Murphy Reed, who is the impetus for all of the great work that has ensued since 2004 for the chapter’s jurisdiction of San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin counties.  Also, I commend,  the Immediate Past President, Dr. Maxine Hickman, whose nationally recognized leadership has been a beacon of light providing services to our underserved communities.  We appreciate Dr. Hickman, who has served on the national board of directors, as she will continue to serve as the Chief Operating Officer for our Doris Ward Workforce Development OEWD Dream Keeper Initiative Program.

As the chapter continues to grow as a model chapter among the 60 local chapters in 28 states, our work is in alignment with our national office.  “Through advocacy we work as change agents to influence policy that promotes gender equity in health, education and economic empowerment. We believe through our efforts we will fulfill our vision of seeing black women and girls living in a world where socio-economic inequity does not exist.” Our vision is being accomplished as we focus on Health, Education, and Economic Empowerment initiatives.

A chef by trade, I understand the power of mixing, kneading, simmering and bringing to a boil, all the variant ingredients to make something magnificent out of substances that individually have no appeal. Let’s work together and cook up some wonderful delicacies that will fill the table of service here in the San Francisco Bay Area for those in need. Our menu of opportunities begin with partners like Sutter Health California Pacific Medical Center; Covered California;  Kaiser Permanente; Wells Fargo; Rainbow Grocery; San Francisco Federal Credit Union and others.

With the help of our partners, that we hope you will be among soon, The National Coalition of 100 Black Women San Francisco Chapter offers programs in the area of Health: cancer awareness and prevention workshops, nutrition and exercise for families; in the area of Education: The Summer Stride with the San Francisco Public Library, Four-year scholarships funded by  annual and much-loved  “Golden Girls ‘Bridging the Generations’ Hats and Gloves Tea;” In Economic Empowerment: Financial and wealth building training including the nationally developed money management Sisternomic$ program and the Doris Ward City of San Francisco OEWD Dream Keeper Workforce Development Initiative; and our work in the Public Policy Arena allows growth in the increasing voter registration, meeting with state and national political leaders to advocate on behalf of Black women and girls.

There is a place for you to stir up some things like “good trouble” that late Georgia Congressman and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. mentee, John Lewis would say.  No matter your gender there is a role for you to play with the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. San Francisco Chapter.  Come sit at the table right by me.
